Steroids are a man-made version of hormones produced by the body.
When injected into a joint or muscle, they help to reduce inflammation and can give relief of pain, swelling and stiffness.
The effects of the steroid injection can take 48-72 hrs to see results, however some patients will see results immediately.
The effect of the injection can last 3-6 months with some lasting up to a year.
Ostenil®Plus is a solution containing hyaluronic acid.
When injected into a joint the injection works by restoring the normal balance between the breakdown and production of hyaluronic acid, which is the lubricant that allows joints to move freely and smoothly.
The effect of an Ostenil®Plus injection are usually felt within 2-4 weeks, and can last in excess of 6 months.
Some conditions may benefit from both a steroid and Ostenil®Plus injection. These can be administered at the same time.
